On-site tests & procedures

To make your medical care as convenient as possible, Novant Health Presbyterian Internal Medicine offers a variety of tests and procedures in our office. These help your physician diagnose problems quickly, and often allow you to get needed services during your regularly scheduled appointment. If you would like to make an appointment for any of these services or to inquire about another service, please call our office at 704-384-1750.

Bone density testing

Osteoporosis is a serious health condition for most women and some men. This condition is marked by decreasing bone density and increasingly fragile bones. You are more at risk for osteoporosis if you:

  • Are a woman.
  • Are post-menopausal.
  • Are small (less than 126 pounds).
  • Are a smoker
  • Have a family history of osteoporosis.
  • Are Caucasian or Asian.
  • Drink excessively.
  • Exercise little.
  • Have low calcium intake.
  • Have certain other chronic conditions.
  • Take certain medications regularly.

Osteoporosis has no symptoms until a bone fracture occurs, so screening tests are important to diagnose the disorder early. We offer heel screening bone density testing in our office, and can arrange hip and spine testing (DEXA scans) if needed.

Joint injections & joint aspiration

Painful joins affect millions of Americans. The causes for joint pain can be varied. In some cases, joint aspiration (the removal of fluid from a joint) can help your doctor understand the cause of joint pain and develop a treatment plan for it. Sometimes, treatment includes injecting cortisone or anesthetics into joints, bursae or tendons. Presbyterian Internal Medicine offers both joint injections and joint aspirations in our office.

Skin lesion removal

Skin lesions and skin abnormalities could be simply annoying or unsightly, or could be indicators of a larger problem. Your provider at Presbyterian Internal Medicine can remove skin lesions and send them for pathology examinations to identify any larger problems.
