Dr. Iveta S. Swaim
"Ever since I was five years old, I knew being a doctor was the only career for me," recalled Dr. Iveta Swaim, an internist at Presbyterian Internal Medicine Clinic. "That dream came true when I graduated from medical school in my native Czechoslovakia."
After practicing there for a year and taking a break to enjoy raising her two children, Dr. Swaim made the transition to the American medical system, starting with a residency here in Charlotte in 1999. She joined Novant Health Presbyterian Internal Medicine in 2003, and has been an important part of the practice ever since.
"I love the focus our practice has on prevention," Dr. Swaim said. "Everyone here at Presbyterian Internal Medicine focuses on collaborating with each other and our patients to have the best possible impact on patient health. I know we have a lot to learn from our patients, and I'm happy to spend the time to get to know them, and their special health needs and concerns."
When she's not working, Dr. Swaim enjoys playing tennis and piano, figure skating and taking ski trips out west. "That is probably the most fun vacation for me and the kids apart from visiting my home country," she said. "Our passion is to stay in touch with our roots by visiting Europe and grandparents. We really want to keep the Slovak heritage, language and culture alive."
